Low Frequency Magnetic Field Induces Depression by Rising Nitric Oxide Levels in the Mouse Brain
نویسندگان
چکیده
The present study was designed to investigate the influence of Extremely low frequency magnetic field (ELF MF) on depression related behavior, and mechanism involved therein. Mice were exposed to ELF MF (50Hz, 10G) 8h/day for 7, 30, 60, 90 and 120 days. Depression was assessed using forced swim test (FST), in which no significant effect was observed on 7 t h, 30t h, 60 t h, 90t h exposure day. However, depression was observed on 120 t h exposure day. It is evident that ELF MF exposure modulates level of nitric oxide (NO); therefore, the level of NO was measured in the regions of brain viz; cortex, striatum, hippocampus and hypothalamus. Results established that ELF MF elevated NO levels in the regions of brain. Furthermore, the implication of NO was assessed by nitric oxide synthase (NOS) inhibitors suggesting the involvement of NO in ELF MF induced depression.

Background: In vitro culture of ovarian follicles may preserve fertility in women with premature ovarian failure due to cancer .It seems that creation a condition that could maintain cellular communications and supports growth of follicles to produce mature oocytes appear to be essential. Nitric oxide (NO) has been recently shown to act with a dual action in mouse oocyte meiotic maturation depe...
متن کاملNitric Oxide is Protective Against Mercury Induced Depression
A B S T R A C T Introduction: Mercury is the second most metal pollutant in the world and has the potential to induce many pathologic conditions, especially in nervous system, such as depression. Here we tried to find out if nitric oxide has any possible role in the pathophysiology of depression induced by this metal. Although the role of nitric oxide has been shown in mood control, here we use...
متن کاملHigh Frequency Electromagnetic Field Induces Lipocalin 2 Expression in Mouse Liver
Objective(s) Neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL/Lcn2), comprise a group of small extracellular proteins with a common P-sheet-dominated 3-dimensional structure. In the past, it was assumed that the predominant role of lipocalin was acting as transport proteins. Recently it has been found that oxidative stress induces Lcn2 expression. It has been also proved that electromagnetic f...

Introduction: Harmalol is a dihydrocarboline compound found naturally in several alcoholic beverages and medicinal plants. This study was designed to investigate the effect of harmalol on memory function and its possible mechanisms in a scopolamine-induced memory disorder model. Materials and Methods: Thirty five male mice were randomly divided into five (n=7) group: Control group )normal sali...
متن کاملThe Effect of Nitric Oxide on Mouse Pre-Implantation Embryo Development and Apoptosis
Clinical studies have shown that in pathological conditions such as endometriosis and reproductive tract infection (male and female) there is an activation status of macrophages that produce large quantities of nitric oxide (NO) in addition to other effector molecules. Large amounts of NO may have embryotoxic roles and produce infertility. This study was designed to evaluate the effect of diffe...
